The MOTOROLA MVME162-10 automatic voltage regulator is used to regulate voltage. It converts fluctuating voltage into a constant voltage. Voltage fluctuations are mainly caused by changes in the load of the power supply system. Changes in voltage can damage equipment in the power system. The change in voltage can be controlled by installing voltage control equipment in several places, such as near transformers, generators, feeders, etc. The voltage regulator is set at more than one point in the power system to control voltage changes.
In a DC power supply system, when the length of the feeder is equal, the voltage can be controlled by using a composite generator. However, when the length of the feeder is different, a feeder booster is used to maintain a constant voltage at the end of each feeder. In the AC system, voltage can be controlled through various methods, such as step-up transformers, induction regulators, parallel capacitors, etc.,
Working principle of MOTOROLA MVME162-10 voltage regulator
Its working principle is to detect errors. The output voltage of the AC generator obtained through a voltage transformer is then rectified, filtered, and compared with the reference voltage. The difference between the actual voltage and the reference voltage is called the error voltage. The error voltage is amplified by an amplifier and then supplied to the main exciter or auxiliary exciter.
Therefore, the amplified error signal controls the excitation of the main or auxiliary exciter (i.e., controls voltage fluctuations) through a step-down or step-up action. The output control of the exciter leads to the control of the terminal voltage of the main AC generator.

Both models are designed around the PMC appearance, and both modules include PCI/ISA bridging, ultra wide SCSI adapters, and Super I/O functionality. Both modules are single width, standard length, and standard height PMC boards. Connect to the motherboard PCI bus through PMC P11, P12, P13, P14, and P15 connectors. The two modules draw+5V and+3.3V through PMC connectors.
