The RLM01 module can be placed directly next to the host, in front of the bus section with several slaves, or in front of a single slave. Several PROFIBUS stations with redundant couplers can be directly connected to the redundant PROFIBUS via RLM01. Only one interface station can be located on Line A or Line B. Each RLM01 PROFIBUS interface can operate up to 31 PROFIBUS stations.
Line redundancy:
The module strengthens the signal form and amplitude of the received data, and monitors the activity and fault of all three lines. Any faults identified will be indicated by LEDs on the front panel. Suitable information can be used for diagnostic purposes and can be obtained on the 8-pole terminal board.
Merge redundant lines:
First, the data (with correct frame start) arriving through line A or line B (see the figure above) is forwarded to connection m. If the data arrive at the same time, randomly select line A or line B. If an error is detected on line A, the control logic switches to line B, which is still available. The procedure of line b is the opposite.
Split non redundant lines:
The data arriving through line M and having a correct frame start are transferred to the other two connections A and b in parallel. If the frame start is incorrect, the control logic will not output any data in A and b.
To improve the availability of RLM 01 itself, a 24 V DC redundant power supply can be connected. The monitoring logic checks that both voltages are available and reports any faults that may have occurred.
