The process of PLC executing the program is divided into three stages, namely, input sampling stage, program execution stage, output refresh stage, and the scanning process of PLC:
(1) Enter the sampling phase. In this stage, PLC reads the input signals on all input terminals in scanning mode, and stores each input state in the corresponding input image register. At this time, the input image register is flushed. In the program execution stage and the output refresh stage, the input image memory is isolated from the outside world, and its contents remain unchanged until the input scan stage of the next scan cycle is refreshed by the re read input signal. It can be seen that the PLC does not directly use the current on-site input signals when executing programs and processing data, but uses the data input into the image area during this sampling. Generally speaking, the width of the input signal should be greater than a scanning period, otherwise it may cause the loss of the signal.
(2) Program execution phase. In the process of executing the user program, the PLC follows the scanning principle of the ladder program. Generally speaking, the PLC executes the program one by one from left to right and from top to bottom. However, when a program jump instruction is encountered, the program jump address is determined according to whether the jump condition is met. During program execution, when the instruction involves input and output states, PLC “reads” the corresponding input terminal state from the input image register, and “reads” the current state of the corresponding component (“soft relay”) from the output image register. Then the corresponding operation is performed, and the operation results are stored in the output image register. For the output image register, the state of each element (“soft relay”) will change as the program executes.
(3) Output refresh phase. The operation results in the execution phase of the program are stored in the output image area instead of being sent to the output port. In the output refresh phase, the PLC sends the output variables in the output image area to the output latch, and then the latch generates the control output of this cycle through the output module. If the state of the internal output relay is “1”, the contact of the output relay is closed and the external load is driven through the output terminal. The status of all output devices shall be maintained for a scanning cycle.
